Steroid endocrinology

We offer a number of tests for the investigation of adrenal function and have a specialist interest in diagnosis and management of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Our GCMS 17-hydroxyprogesterone method is not subject to interference from non-specific steroids and is therefore ideal for the diagnosis of 21-hydroxylase deficiency from the first day of life. The service is a Supraregional Assay Service (SAS).

Other SAS tests include:

  • urine steroid profiling: comprehensive reference ranges have been established for age and gender.
  • renin activity
  • Aldosterone
